  • Getting the most out of your garden all year round

For many of us our garden is a place where we can relax, sit in the sunshine, or shade, enjoy a barbeque with friends and generally chill out but are we getting the most out of our gardens all year round or do we not venture past the patio doors from October to April?

Living in the UK we get used to the weather being unpredictable and so even in the summer months we can have a week or more of wet weather and so it is a good idea to have an area in the garden that is covered over and yet still open to the fresh air. This may be a summer house or a gazebo either a permanent feature or a removeable one. If this area has seating that is protected from the elements and a type of heating it can be used in every season not just summer.

Inflatable hot tubs have become extremely popular this year and despite the weather, a dip in a hot tub is enjoyable. Gazing up at a starlit sky whilst relaxing in the beautifully warm water of the tub is a must in the cooler months and is a totally different experience. Some people prefer to site their hot tub under a gazebo where it is protected from the weather, so this is an alternative option.

  • Gardening can be therapeutic

Gardening is often one of those things that you either love or hate. For some, gardening is just another chore that has to be done but for others it is more of a hobby and they look forward to it. Gardening is said to be therapeutic. It can be very calming and relaxing and because you can often see results quite quickly, it can be very rewarding.

If you have never been big on gardening then you may want to give it a try. Start off with something small and that you can accomplish quickly. Simply weeding an area or mowing the lawn can have a huge instant impact and can allow you to see what can be accomplished in a short period of time.

You will need to invest in some gardening equipment but to start off with you can probably get by with a cheaper set that you can pick up from many supermarkets.

If you find that you like gardening then you may decide to invest more and buy better tools. Always read reviews before buying the tools or ask for recommendations from people who you know are avid gardeners.

  • Summer Lawn Care for Beautiful Grass

Your lawn is the pride and joy of your garden, and very likely your whole home. It is the crowning glory, making your garden look attractive and framing your home so it will look simply stunning. The summer weather doesn’t always agree with your lawn and might make it dull and brown if you are not careful. Read through this advice to help you keep your lawn green and fresh:

    • Keep it well watered. The best time of day to water your lawn is in the morning, before the day gets too warm. Use a sprinkler system to distribute water evenly over all grass, and run it for a few hours.
    • Mow it consistently. Don’t mow your lawn too short straight away. Keep mowing it at regular intervals, and reduce the length gradually, or you could cause damage.
    • Use a good fertiliser. When summer is over, you can scarify your lawn and begin to prepare it for the following summer already!

  • Should Gardeners be Qualified?

When you are employing a gardener, you need to know they will do a good job on your garden. One of the things potential employers might ask is what qualifications the gardener has. However, gardeners don’t necessarily need to be qualified. How important is a formal qualification for a gardening professional?

If a gardener is working on a large and complex landscape, such as formal gardens or a stately home garden, then it may serve them well to have a qualification. There are qualifications offered by many bodies, such as the Royal Horticultural Society, that are very well regarded. These teach a range of practical and academic skills, so the gardener will know how to adapt their approach.

For a domestic gardener, qualifications may help but they are less essential. Many gardeners are incredibly good at what they do, and they have lots of experience in their field. It is this experience that is ultimately going to make someone a great gardener.
