With spring well under way, many of us are starting to turn out attention to our gardens. Often over the winter months, our gardens get a bit neglected and we do very little in terms of maintenance. Once the warmer weather is on its way and the beings start to get lighter l, it is nice to be able to have some time out in the garden getting it ready. Social restrictions are also starting to be lifted which means that from the end of March up to 6 people or two households can meet outside. This is the perfect motivation to get your garden looking lovely. Planting some brightly coloured flowers or having hanging baskets and potted plants around really will brighten up an area. It can make a huge difference to a garden. You may decide to just get some seasonal plants that you replace every year. These are usually quite cheap and look nice for a good few months. If growing them from seeds, be sure to start them off at the right time. Too early and it may be too cold, too late and you may miss the season as to when they are supposed to flower.

Installing automatic gates at your home
So many of us are concerned with the security at our property. We are constantly looking at ways in which we can make our homes more secure and one thing to always bear in mind is your outside security. People often think about alarm systems, cameras on doorbells or cctv systems but they sometimes neglect basic deterrents such as fences and gates. Research has shown that gates and fences around a property can be enough to stop a burglar even attempting to enter your property. If they think it is going to take a long time to get in or out of your premises then they are likely to target someone else instead.
Automatic gates are great for not only adding that extra level of security but for also being convenient.
The problem with manual gates is that you have to be able to pull up somewhere to open and close the gates as you enter and leave. If your property leads straight out on to a road, this can be difficult and if it is raining, you probably don’t want to have to get out of your car. Automatic gates can be controlled by sensors or remote controls allowing you to open and close them as and when needed.

Filling your outside space with potted plants
If you want to take up some gardening or want to add some life to your outside area, you may decide to do container gardening. This is essentially creating beautiful areas of the garden using potted plants rather than planting them in the ground. This type of gardening is perfect for those that have a small garden or are renting somewhere temporarily. It is also great for those that are not great at gardening and just starting out. It allows you to love plants around without having to disturb them which can be great if you need to change the layout of your outdoor space from time to time.
Adding potted plants and hanging baskets really can transform an area and add a touch of beauty to any space. If the plants die it is easy to take them out of the pots and plant something else. You may decide to go for a certain colour scheme one year and then the following year change the scheme.
Most people have container plants on their patios or decking. This allows you to keep them near to where you can see or your seating areas, allowing you to keep an eye on them. It often means that you check on them more regularly than if they were planted directly in to the ground.

Can you do much with your garden in winter
Gardens can look messy in the winter months as you are not able to get out as often to give it a once over. If you have children or dogs that go out on the grass, it may get very muddy quickly. Ideally, before the bad weather hits you need to go out and spend a few hours tidying it up. Put away any kids toys or equipment that can be put away and try and store your deck chairs and parasol out of the elements.
You will not be able to mow the grass if it is wet so you need to keep on top of it during the autumn and into the winter. If we have a dry day, then make the most of it and go out and give it a quick mow. During the winter months the grass won’t grow very much so it you can keep on top of it until the really cold weather sets in you should be ok. Any potted plants that are temperamental to the cold should be bought inside for the winter or put into a green house to avoid it getting damaged by the frost.

Choosing fencing for your garden
Whether you are installing a new boundary fence to your property or replacing an old one that has become damaged by gale force winds the selection of fencing options out there is extensive.
The first thing to decide is the material that you want your fencing to be constructed from. There are many types of wooden fencing available from the popular larch lap fencing to open picket fencing. Your choice will depend on your needs for instance if you own a dog then you will need secure fencing to stop the dog escaping. If you do not want to have tall fencing around your property there is always the option to have shorter fencing with open trellising on top in this way it does not feel as if you are hemmed in at all.
If your property is an older one you may have a brick wall surrounding the property or metal fencing or even a combination of the two. To replace these if damaged will be more costly but in order to maintain the exterior of the property it is wise to replace like with like. Some modern properties have metal fencing around patio areas especially if there is a drop down to a lower area of the garden. As metal fencing can be seen through it is not as obtrusive as wooden fencing.
